Standing in 13 acres of woodland in the beautiful Ceiriog Valley, North Wales and now easily accessible from the M6 and M56 motorways, Tan y Garth Hall is ideally situated for its role as a study centre
Under the guidance of its tutors, the Hall offers the opportunity for students and teachers from all denominations and walks of life to come together and study the hermeneutic techniques and principles of Yoga both East and West.
What Is Hermeneutics?
Hermeneutics is the art of interpretation; the theory of the discovery and communication of the concepts and teachings of the scriptures of the world; the science of attaining clarity,by comprehending, explaining and establishing the sense of both traditional and biblical authors. It looks to the individual's own apprehension rather than the conveyance of the meaning ascertained to others, thereby enabling individuals to interpret for themselves in the light of their own experience.

The Founder of Tan-y-Garth Hall
The Hall was founded by the late Khen Ratcliffe. Khen's sole aim was to spread the teachings of Eugene Halliday under whom he himself studied.
The Hall is operated as a registered charity by The International Hermeneutic Society. The affairs of the Society are managed by a council elected annually by the Society's membership. The Society has no paid staff.
Eugene Halliday
Khen stated from the beginning that his one aim was to spread the teachings of Eugene Halliday. This does not mean that we are committed to reading only the printed works of Eugene Halliday and listening to the many tape recordings made of his lectures.
So what did Khen mean?
Many members of the Society, particularly the older ones, knew Eugene Halliday personally. They know he was not one of those money-oriented teachers who present themselves as the sole source of light unattainable by their disciples. He taught everyone that the Kingdom is within, and that the highest centre of each of us is unique.
He recommended the reading of all major scriptures of the world and the works of the great philosophers. There was no subject in which he was not interested; he was at home in the world of the sciences as much as in the world of the arts, which he loved. He was not simply an intellectual, although he read many languages. He studied many scriptures in the original languages and travelled the world.
He was no mere 'other worldly mystic', but a man of profound spiritual insight and power, who lived consciously in the eternal world, without despising the time process, which he taught to be essential to our spiritual development.
